  • I have profound respect for Otumfuo and Asanteman- Mahama

I have profound respect for Otumfuo and Asanteman- Mahama

The recent statement from my office was meant to shed more light on the events surrounding the 2016 poll and not to disparage Otumfuo’s efforts at promoting national peace and unity.

I therefore find the language and commentary in the ensuing public discourse very disturbing, dikoder.com, reports.

Clearly Mr. Julius Debrah’s statement was intended to simply clarify that I never had the slightest intention of seeking to hang on to power unconstitutionally, as some media houses sought to infer from Otumfuo’s speech at the UN.

I have profound respect for Otumfuo and Asanteman and will not allow this issue to mar our long standing cordial relationship. On Otumfuo’s return home, we will take the necessary steps to bring closure to this matter.

In the meantime, I urge the general public and party members not to be baited into non-constructive flogging of this issue.

We Are Wise Now NPP Grassroots To Parliamentarians

The Eastern Regional grassroots communicators of the New Patriotic Party NPP have bemoaned the inability of their Members of Parliament across the Region to offer jobs to its supporters and how it is affecting party work at the grassroots due to the inaction of constituency executives.

The communicator’s organizer Abenbebom said the grassroots has tried on many occasions to be employed but ” anytime they go not even a single person to endorse the forms especially on the issues of car loan to the grassroots

He claimed they are wise now and the opportunity for grassroots to make a clear case and send a clear signal to many of the MP’s who had neglected the grassroots. The primaries are their power to choose the correct representatives

“You can give me a 5 kilo of rice and ghc50 as well but will vote against you because No Amount Of Money Can Buy Me. Abenbebom stated

Also, the framers of NPP party and Ghana constitution, as well as Democrats all over the world, knew that some MP’s when given the people’s power to rule and be in a comfort zone will rather neglect and ignore the people who toil for their leadership to serve this nation and their party manifesto promises

Abenbebom then advised the grassroots and delegates to change all those types of leaders who will not serve on their interest and neglect all those who go there only for their families and friends to the detriment of the party ,” let not entertain any form of begging, many of those had become tricksters ,let be careful.

” We have to take their monies and enjoy it and vote them out to serve as a lesson for others who are coming on boards or not even campaign for them during their primaries

Abenbebom finally thanked ALHAJI Opass and David Prah for their advice and supportive of the grassroots communicators’

  • Exercise your voting rights – NCCE Boss to Ghanaians

Exercise your voting rights – NCCE Boss to Ghanaians

The Chairperson of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Josephine Nkrumah has called on Ghanaians not to stay away from voting ahead of the 2020 elections.

Some Ghanaians have expressed apathy towards the 2020 general elections; a situation that has been partly blamed for the low turnout in the ongoing voters’ register exhibition exercise.

However, speaking at a forum dubbed ‘Making Democracy Work for the People’ which was organized by the Centre for Democratic Development (CDD) Ghana, the NCCE boss said staying away from elections is not the solution to the problems of democracy.

“I use every opportunity to always encourage the participation of Ghanaians in democracy by exercising their voting rights. If we want a vibrant democracy as a people, we shouldn’t say that because we’re not getting what we want, we’re not going to vote. Now more than ever, we should vote.”

“This is about multi-party democracy. If you feel that you are not getting what you want from either of the two dominant parties, there are other options for you. There are other parties. So we should begin to interrogate what those other parties also present and determine whether this is a better option or not,” she stated.

The voters’ register exercise experienced low patronage and a number of challenges at the various registration centres.

    JOSEPHINE NKRUMAH

Constituencies like New Juaben North and South in the Eastern Region faced the challenge of not having the needed materials supplied from the EC headquarters, thereby hindering residents from checking their details on the first day of the exercise.

A similar incident happened at the Tamale Central constituency of the Northern Region.

The Director of the Centre for Asian Studies at the University of Ghana, Dr. Lloyd Adu Amoah, at the event, urged political parties to focus on development rather than the privileges that come with being in power.

“When power is won, the next thing is the spoils of power; who gets what within the party. Our parties lose focus on those big questions; futuristic questions. So I think that there needs to be a reconfiguration of the overall mindset and philosophy in terms of our parties in Ghana,” the Director said.

EC extends voters’ register exhibition exercise

The Electoral Commission has subsequently extended the voters’ register exhibition exercise.

The exercise started on September 10, 2019, and was expected to end on September 17, 2019.

A statement signed by Acting Director of Public Affairs at the EC, Sylvia Annor said the exercise will now end on September 20th, 2019.

  • Threatening to sue Bank of Ghana-Adongo

Threatening to sue Bank of Ghana-Adongo

The Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central Isaac Adongo has threatened to sue the Bank of Ghana (BoG) over what he called its non-compliance with its laws.

In the letter to the Attorney General written by his lawyers, Mr. Adongo suggested that it was ironical for the Bank of Ghana to abolish the financial sector with its formulated law but “[the BoG] has itself fallen foul of its duties under the Bank of Ghana Act.”

The lawyers referenced section 53 of the Bank of Ghana Act which requires the BoG to submit a report to Parliament once every six months on all foreign exchange received and payment and transfers outside Ghana, the conduct of activities under its mandate and any other relevant functions.

He stated that “the Bank of Ghana has either failed and or neglected to comply with this statutory reporting requirement and is therefore in clear breach of the Bank of Ghana Act.”

“In the circumstances, our client instructs us to serve notice, which we hereby do, that he intends to proceed to court to compel the Bank of Ghana to comply within the law within one month of receipt of this letter by your office.”

Mr. Adongo had written an article on this issue where he called the BoG “a lawless entity.”

He said the Central Bank was setting bad examples for corporate governance in the financial sector.

“You will recall that by May 2018, BoG was in breach of its obligation to publish its audited financial statements by 31st March. I subsequently drew attention to this breach and it was finally rectified.”

In that article, he was questioning the source of $800 million the BoG was to use to shore up the cedi which was fast depreciating at the time.

The MP for Bolgatanga Central Mr. Isaac Adongo urged the BoG to “comply with its obligations to Parliament and answer for its gradual reserves and the deteriorating health of the cedi.”

The Founder And Leader for United Progressive Party (UPP), Mr. Akwasi Addai Odike believes the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the largest opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) have both done little in terms of fighting corruption while in office.

“I will put both NPP and NDC in the same basket. None of them is doing better than others”, he observed when speaking to the media at his Press Conference.

According to him, though it is his observation and not backed by evidence, from where he sits as a politician, both present and past governments are not doing enough to get rid of the corruption canker that has bedeviled the nation.

He further explained the reason why both the two(2) leading parties in Ghana are all corrupt, they take money(bribe) before giving out an appointment, constructs, etc. So he, Odike is urging the entire nation to elect him as President in the 2020 general election of the Republic of Ghana, and he will fight against that corruption and make sure it is uprooted.
