  • GHANAIANS WANTS TO KNOW YOUR STAND IN THE AIRBUS SCANDAL.

Ghanaians are still not curtained of how Ghana was disgraced internationally in respect to the Airbus scandal and been the only Africa country that was cited in the aircraft purchase scandal.

Out of the judgement, Ghanaians have been left to their own faith as to the faces behind the coded names even though the case has been penned to the office of the special prosecutor waiting for its finality.

The chairman of Loyal Citizens Mr Alfred Ahiatse on last weekend met a group of youth to discuss issues of national interest and realised that their major concern is about the Airbus issue and wish to know the names of those involved, they were pointing fingers that the government official 1 will be no other person than ex president John Dramani Mahama.

On this note we want the former president to come out to clear himself of the public notion about his role in the airbus Scandal.

Mr Alfred further cautioned the youth to stay out of trouble and be patriotic citizens.

  • PRE-COMMENCEMENT CERTIFICATION FOR BUSINESSES ABOLISH

    PRE-COMMENCEMENT CERTIFICATION FOR BUSINESSES ABOLISH

The Registrar General Department in consultation with key stakeholders has abolished the key requirement that required businesses to obtain some form of pre-commencement of activities certificates prior to their commencement.

In place of this, as a pivotal part of the quest to improve the ease of doing business in the country, only Certificates of Incorporation – being a legal document relating to the formation of a company or corporation – will now need to be issued henceforth, and this has now been incorporated in the Companies Act 2019 (Act 992).

Per the new regime, an application for incorporation shall include a statutory declaration by each proposed director indicating that within the preceding five years, they have not been charged with or convicted of a criminal offence involving fraud or dishonesty, among other things listed in the new law.

In effect, once the registration process involving a business is complete, a company can proceed to do business in the country. The move, according to the Department, is to simplify the registration process.

“Therefore, there would be no minimum capital requirement before commencement of operations. However, companies with foreign participation would still have to comply with the Ghana Investment Promotion (GIPC) rules on minimum equity requirements”, a report from the RGD added.

Importantly, it is mandatory that every type of business goes through the process of incorporation which involves the preparation of specific documents including Articles of Incorporation among other things.

With respect to limited liability companies (LLCs), the main documents used to incorporate are the Articles of Organization.

Instructively, when opening a business bank account, applying for any type of loan or selling shares to investors, the Certificate of Incorporation is one of the most important documents that a business is required, to provide as the document evidences that the company is properly set up.

This requirement further specifies that the business is a legal entity captured on the public register of companies.

  • FOUR GHANAIAN STUDENTS DEPORTED

    4 Ghanaian students deported
banned from UK over forged scholarship papers.
Registrar of the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat, Kingsley Agyeman.

The Registrar of the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat, Kingsley Agyeman, has cautioned persons who forge documents to show scholarships from the Scholarship Secretariat to desist from the act or risk facing the laws.

His statement comes in the wake of four Ghanaian students who were deported and banned for ten years by the United Kingdom over fake scholarship documents.

Following investigations, it was discovered that four Ghanaians, Andy Kwesi Enos (University of Reading), Esther Tieku (University of Kent), Priscilla Omari Konadu (University of East Anglia) and Gifty Appoh (University of Greenwich) had presented fake documents to their Universities leading to the school’s withdrawal of their tier 4 visas and deportation.

The four are currently in Ghana and assisting the security agencies with investigations.

He added that the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat is able to fish out persons who are engaged in the act through their tight system and alerting the Universities where they have been enrolled in. The tuition and cost of living of such students are not paid.

Mr Agyeman, stated that the “illegal” practice goes a long way to affect the image of the country and its president.

He also added that unscrupulous persons who attempted to lure people in believing that they can help them acquire scholarships have been arrested and are with the BNI, CID and National Security.

“To mention, the UK alone for the 2019/2020 Academic Year, we had complaints of people issuing out fake scholarship award letters to suspecting applicants. They were able to get away through the visa and went to UK. But, because of the system we’ve put in place, no outlay of cash was paid to them”, he stated.

In September 2019, the British government announced that international students at British universities will be allowed to stay in the country for two years after graduating. The visa allows eligible students to work, or look for work, in any career or position of their choice, for two years after completing their studies.

  • Neoplan Ghana Ltd Shuts Down on January 31

Neoplan Ghana Ltd Shuts Down on January 31

Neoplan Ghana Limited, one of the country’s surviving coach manufacturing businesses in the 1970s, has announced a total shutdown on Friday, January 31, 2020 because it is no longer viable.

A memo to all staff of the company in Accra and Kumasi announcing the closure of the company, which was established on December 12, 1974, cites the lack of contracts and recurring monthly losses as reasons for the shutdown.

The company said the last time it was given a government contract was in 2002, which ended in 2010 and saw the production of 450 DAF/VDL buses for the Metro Mass Transit Ltd.

Dated January 15, 2020, and titled “Closure of Neoplan (Ghana) Limited”, the memo signed by the Managing Director of the company, Mr. Georges Nassar, a copy of which is in the custody of the Daily Graphic, states: “Management regretfully informs you that Neoplan (Ghana) Limited will be closing down its branches on 31st January 2020.”

“This is due to the lack of contracts and recurring monthly losses incurred. As a result, all employment contracts with the company will be terminated as of the said date until further notice,” the memo added.

Mr. Nassar confirmed the imminent shutdown. He said the decision had been informed by the inability of the minority shareholder, the Fadoul Group, to continue funding the company all by itself, while the government which was the majority shareholder contributed nothing to its running.

“In the past six, seven years, we have been running the company ourselves without any contribution from the government. In 2016, we asked the government to buy additional shares from them so that we can finance the company ourselves.

“In 2016, we paid them for the shares. They didn’t give us the shares and they kept the money with them,” an exasperated Mr Nassar said, adding that the money paid for the shares was $173,000.

He explained that the money was paid to the Divestiture Implementation Committee (DIC) but the cheques were never released, yet the money was never returned.

In addition, he said since 2016 the minority shareholders had invested about GH¢10 million in the company, while about GH¢260,000 had been lost every month in revenue during the period.
