  • FOUR GHANAIAN STUDENTS DEPORTED

    4 Ghanaian students deported

Registrar of the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat, Kingsley Agyeman.

The Registrar of the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat, Kingsley Agyeman, has cautioned persons who forge documents to show scholarships from the Scholarship Secretariat to desist from the act or risk facing the laws.

His statement comes in the wake of four Ghanaian students who were deported and banned for ten years by the United Kingdom over fake scholarship documents.

Following investigations, it was discovered that four Ghanaians, Andy Kwesi Enos (University of Reading), Esther Tieku (University of Kent), Priscilla Omari Konadu (University of East Anglia) and Gifty Appoh (University of Greenwich) had presented fake documents to their Universities leading to the school’s withdrawal of their tier 4 visas and deportation.

The four are currently in Ghana and assisting the security agencies with investigations.

He added that the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat is able to fish out persons who are engaged in the act through their tight system and alerting the Universities where they have been enrolled in. The tuition and cost of living of such students are not paid.

Mr Agyeman, stated that the “illegal” practice goes a long way to affect the image of the country and its president.

He also added that unscrupulous persons who attempted to lure people in believing that they can help them acquire scholarships have been arrested and are with the BNI, CID and National Security.

“To mention, the UK alone for the 2019/2020 Academic Year, we had complaints of people issuing out fake scholarship award letters to suspecting applicants. They were able to get away through the visa and went to UK. But, because of the system we’ve put in place, no outlay of cash was paid to them”, he stated.

In September 2019, the British government announced that international students at British universities will be allowed to stay in the country for two years after graduating. The visa allows eligible students to work, or look for work, in any career or position of their choice, for two years after completing their studies.

Neoplan Ghana Ltd Shuts Down on January 31

Neoplan Ghana Limited, one of the country’s surviving coach manufacturing businesses in the 1970s, has announced a total shutdown on Friday, January 31, 2020 because it is no longer viable.

A memo to all staff of the company in Accra and Kumasi announcing the closure of the company, which was established on December 12, 1974, cites the lack of contracts and recurring monthly losses as reasons for the shutdown.

The company said the last time it was given a government contract was in 2002, which ended in 2010 and saw the production of 450 DAF/VDL buses for the Metro Mass Transit Ltd.

Dated January 15, 2020, and titled “Closure of Neoplan (Ghana) Limited”, the memo signed by the Managing Director of the company, Mr. Georges Nassar, a copy of which is in the custody of the Daily Graphic, states: “Management regretfully informs you that Neoplan (Ghana) Limited will be closing down its branches on 31st January 2020.”

“This is due to the lack of contracts and recurring monthly losses incurred. As a result, all employment contracts with the company will be terminated as of the said date until further notice,” the memo added.

Mr. Nassar confirmed the imminent shutdown. He said the decision had been informed by the inability of the minority shareholder, the Fadoul Group, to continue funding the company all by itself, while the government which was the majority shareholder contributed nothing to its running.

“In the past six, seven years, we have been running the company ourselves without any contribution from the government. In 2016, we asked the government to buy additional shares from them so that we can finance the company ourselves.

“In 2016, we paid them for the shares. They didn’t give us the shares and they kept the money with them,” an exasperated Mr Nassar said, adding that the money paid for the shares was $173,000.

He explained that the money was paid to the Divestiture Implementation Committee (DIC) but the cheques were never released, yet the money was never returned.

In addition, he said since 2016 the minority shareholders had invested about GH¢10 million in the company, while about GH¢260,000 had been lost every month in revenue during the period.

NPP Primaries: Bekwai Chairman Lock Party Offices; Denied Aspirant From Picking Form

Supporters of Lawyer Akwasi Amofa Agyeman were angry when they accompanied their candidate to the NPP branch at Bekwai to pick nomination forms only to meet the party offices locked up.

The supporters who spoke to this reporter accused the party Chairman and the incumbent MP of conniving to prevent Lawyer Akwasi  Agyeman from becoming MP of Bekwai constituency.

They explained that, since the rules and regulations govern the NPP party gives each one mandate to contest every position, the office should have been open at the moment where every constituency office has opened for those interested to lead the party in impending 2020 poll, but the constituency chairman, Mr. Patrick Adu Gyamfi has intentionally locked the office and refused to pick any call from the potential contestants especially their candidate.

“We have made the payment of Ghc2,000.00 at the NPP national headquarters Accra, as nomination fee on behalf of our candidate which guarantees us to pick up the forms but only to meet locked up an office in the Constituency”, they bemoaned.

The supporters, describes the incidents as barbaric and bias, “This development though disappointing does not come as a surprise as attempts have been made to get the incumbent MP, Hon. Joseph Owusu to go unopposed”, they expressed worried.

As at 5:00 pm, the Bekwai NPP constituency office was still locked, the supporters says until party leadership opens up the office for their candidate to pick his forms, they will continuously storms the premises daily in numbers until the Regional and National executives intervene for necessary resolution.

  • LEAVE THE MINERS ALONE, THE POLITICIANS ARE WORST CULPRITS- GNASSM TASKFORCE

LEAVE THE MINERS ALONE, THE POLITICIANS ARE WORST CULPRITS- GNASSM TASKFORCE

A member of the Ghana National Association of Small Scale Miners Taskforce against illegal mining has revealed that so long as politicians continue to manipulate the mining sector especially small scale mining, it will be difficult for the nation to win the war against illegal and irresponsible mining.

Andoh Bresi believes that failed attempts by successive governments to regulate the mining sector should be blamed on politicians rather than putting all the blame at the doorstep of the miners.

Though he concedes, some of the miners do things haphazardly, the connivance of politicians for their selfish interest and lack of political will to ensure sustenance of proper regulations continue to contribute to the worsening environmental degradation and pollution of the river bodies.

He is worried about how numerous government policies aiming at controlling illegal and irresponsible mining has not been successful, accusing the politician for employing political power in such situations to their advantage.

In such instances, the politicians become miners and flout their own laws to defeat the government’s good intentions.

According to him, the neglect of the Ghana National Association of Small Scale Miners in the formulation and implementation of such policies is another biggest factor.

Describing GNASSM as the only legitimate body to oversee the activities of small scale mining in Ghana, it should be worrying to every Ghanaian why such body is always relegated to the fore when addressing issues and challenges in the sector.

He has therefore challenged GNASSM to look beyond the level of the politicians and take up the responsibility of ensuring that sustainable and responsible small scale mining is practised in Ghana.

  • REASONS WHY YOUR PARTNER WILL END UP CHEATING ON YOU

REASONS WHY YOUR PARTNER WILL END UP CHEATING ON YOU

Five things that could push your partner into the arms of another man or woman.

Apparently, there are some things that could push your partner into the arms of another man/woman and the following are reasons why people have found themselves cheating on their partner.

    1. You lose yourself

Losing interest in your appearance and general well-being can happen, especially after the chaos and stress of kids enter a marriage. But you cannot allow this to happen as it could mean that your spouse begins to lose interest in you.

    2. Divided attention

If either partner is neglected for too long because the other partner has eyes, time and energy invested in something (even if the reasons are valid), he or she may start to look elsewhere.

    3. You play the blame game

Does it feel like your partner can do nothing right these days? If you’re paying too much attention to what they are doing wrong all the time, and never praise the things they get right, your partner may have decided that he was done being the fall guy or woman.

    4. You no longer put effort into sex

Whatever you do though, never forget that sex is the one thing you and your partner do together that makes that relationship different from all the others in your life. When it disappears, a big part of the marital bond does, too.

    5. Do you still even listen at all?

Your partner may have been expressing unhappiness for a while now, either overtly or subtly. If the message just hasn’t been getting through, they may have decided to find a sympathetic listener — and more — somewhere else.

SAMINI TURNED AWAY FROM HIGH SCHOOL AFTER DREADLOCKS DEEMED INAPPROPRIATE

Ghanaian dancehall artiste Samini has been denied speaking engagement with a student of the Ebenezer Senior High School Accra, over his dreadlocks.

Speaking to Citi News, the Highgrade Family boss recounted how the school’s headmaster prevented him from addressing students as his looks were described as unbefitting.

“The headmaster of Ebenezer Senior High School decided that because of my dreadlocks, I was not fit to speak to the students of the school which is in Dansoman where I live, which is 5 minutes from my parents’ home,” he said.
