  • NDC will bury Rawlings, Akufo-Addo must stop ‘hijack’ attempts – Asiedu Nketia

NDC will bury Rawlings, Akufo-Addo must stop ‘hijack’ attempts – Asiedu Nketia

The General Secretary for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) says President Akufo-Addo should not “hijack” the burial activities of late former President Jerry John Rawlings.

Johnson Asiedu Nketia stated that the party would not be treated as a guest when it comes to the funeral arrangement of its founder.

“Everything about this funeral, so far, depicts an attempt by an opponent to hijack the funeral of the founding father of our political party, and we don’t think the funeral of our party founder ought to be organised somewhere, and we get invited,” he said.

He added, “We have directed all branches of our party countrywide to organise events that will give a fitting celebration of the life of our founder. We will participate (in the national funeral) but that will not stop us from organising our own thing.”

According to the NDC’s General Secretary, the president of the country and flagbearer of the NPP has failed to honour the late Rawlings as the founder of the opposition party in his commiseration to the bereaved family.

“We were sorely disappointed that Akufo-Addo, even in issuing a statement of condolence, refused or failed to recognize the fact that President Rawlings was the founder of the NDC.

“It is against all the different practices we have been engaged in, in the past, as far as the death of prominent members of the two political parties is concerned,” he added.

His comments come after the demise of the first president of the Fourth Republic, Jerry John Rawlings on November 12, at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital after contracting the deadly Covid-19.

After the demise of the founder of the party, an NDC delegation led by John Dramani Mahama visited the Rawlings’ family to share their condolences and also discuss the way forward.

Several political parties including the NPP and the NDC have suspended all campaign activities in honour of the late President.

President Akufo-Addo has also declared a 7-day national mourning period during which all flags will fly at half-mast in Mr Rawlings’ honour.

He has also tasked the Chief of Staff and the Rawlings’ family to work together and complete plans for the burial of the late head of state.

It Is Time We Think Beyond NPP And NDC- CPP Running Mate

Professor Emmanuel Yaovi Boboobi, running mate of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) flagbearer, Mr Ivor Kobina Greenstreet, has urged Ghanaians to shift attention beyond the two major political parties to a third force for rapid development.

He expressed worry about the level of mismanagement exhibited by both the New Patriotic Party and the National Democratic Congress, adding they only brought division among Ghanaians.

Professor Boboobi said this when he met leadership and supporters of the Party at Akatsi during a day’s tour to the Volta Region.

“It is time we look elsewhere, it is time we start thinking beyond the NDC and the NPP, It is time we reject parties built on structures that can only benefit a few, they have divided us, and in all these years of their rule, there has been no significant change in our well-being nor an improvement in the quality of our lives,” he said.

He said the next CPP government would restore hope and dignity to all Ghanaians, and that there would be job security, food stability, oneness, among others.

Professor Boboobi further said the CPP would prioritise agricultural activities reviving the collapsed factories built 63 years ago by Dr Kwame Nkrumah, founder of the CPP.

He promised a multi-trillion dollar agricultural sector industry since the CPP was poised to institute a research centre for effective growth in all their key sectors of development.

Mr Thomas Ntumy, the Volta Regional Chairman of the Party, asked the electorates to vote massively for the CPP, because things were going in the wrong direction of the country.

“A vote for the CPP is a vote for yourself, we are also Ghanaians, Ghana is not for only a few people to enjoy,” he explained.

Leadership of the Party during the visit, out-doored Mr Maxwell Atsah Nana, the Parliamentary candidate for Akatsi South on the ticket of the CPP.

Mr Atsah in his message to supporters of the Party, indicated “it is time we realise that “our challenges as a nation will not be addressed by NPP nor NDC, our struggle will continue to defeat us if we don’t liberate ourselves from this oppression”.

He urged all to promote peace during these period of campaign activities.

Other Party executives present include, Rashid Also, the Oti Regional Chairman, Musah Michael, Volta Regional Organiser, Mr Aaron Tetteh Agbenu, Volta Regional Secretary.

NDC Expresses their Disappointment in Regional Executives for Not Supporting their Campaign

With just 31 days left for Ghanaians to go to the polls to elect a President and Members of Parliament, it seems all is not well within the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in its campaign as the party accused Regional and Constituency Executives of not doing enough.

In a letter signed by the General Secretary of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the letter states that, after a meeting of the Functional Executive Committee (FEC) of the NDC, it was noted that, the party need to intensify its campaign.

The letter further stated that, Regional and Constituency Executives of the NDC have reneged on their responsibilities in their respective Regions as they left everything to the campaign teams in the Regions and the party Headquarters.

The letter also indicated that, the Regional campaign tours by the flagbearer of the NDC, John Mahama and the running mate, Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang has revealed several disappointing lapses in the Party’s campaign in many Constituencies across the Country.

It added that, the National Headpotters of the Party sometimes arrange for supporters to be bussed from other Regions for party events and which does not augur well for the NDC.

As a result of this, the Functional Executives Committee leadership of the Party have aggreed to assign National Officers to all the Regions

NPP, NDC Share Ideas On Financing Universal Health Care

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have expressed divergent positions on what they would do to ensure universal health coverage as well as increase budgetary allocation to the health sector if voted to power.

While the NPP touted revamping the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and making it more efficient through digitisation, the NDC believed its free primary health care for all proposal, was the panacea to ensuring universal health care for all in the country.

They expressed their positions at a forum dubbed: “Zonal Engagement Session with Stakeholders on Health Specific Commitments of Political Party Manifestos”, held in Tamale on Thursday.

The day’s event organised by SEND-GHANA, a civil society organisation, in collaboration with 123FM Constituency Connect programme with funding support from African Population and Health Research Centre, was to have a good appreciation of the health sector manifesto proposals of the two political parties.

Dr Anthony Nsiah Asare, Presidential Advisor on Health, who represented the NPP during the event, said the government was working to make the NHIS more efficient while promoting preventive health and minimising fraud in health insurance claims to ensure more resources to fund the health sector.

Dr Asare said the government was already doing all what the NDC promised in its People’s Manifesto adding that there was no need to change the government at the polls in December.

He gave the assurance that the government would continue to prioritise the health sector and build hospitals in all districts that lacked one and regional hospitals in the new regions and equip them with full complement of health staff to provide quality health care to the people.

Dr Koma Jehu-Appiah, Spokesperson on Health, NDC Manifesto said if the NDC was voted into power in December, it would use resources from the country’s natural endowment sector, cut down on wastes and reduce the number of political appointees to free resources to fund the health sector.

Dr Jehu-Appiah said the NDC had done it before in the area of building magnificent health infrastructure across the country, adding if given the nod, it would do more to eliminate barriers to accessing health care in the country.

Mr Mumuni Mohammed, Regional Programme Manager for SEND-GHANA said political manifestos had become documents for governing the country, and urged political parties to commit to their promises to meet the aspirations of the people.

NDC’s hope of Mahama’s win shows their blind loyalty syndrome – Presidential staffer

A Presidential Staffer Charles Nii Teiko Tagoe says the National Democratic Congress is suffering from blind loyalty syndrome hence their strong conviction that John Dramani Mahama will have an impact in the 2020 elections.

According to him, the NDC is waiting for their biggest political defeat and embarrassment come December 7.

To him, their strong conviction comes as a shock because the signs are glaring that John Dramani Mahama is a spent case and will not make any impact in the impending elections.

Expressing his opinion on social media, the Presidential staffer said “You wonder where they get their motivation to still believe John Mahama is still in this contest from. Anyway, blind loyalty syndrome is a way of life and a strategic posterity that helps to avoid pending future shocks. His biggest political defeat and embarrassment awaits him come December 7, 2020.”

He described John Dramani Mahama as a desperate leader who is saying just anything to gain power but even with that, he will be embarrassed by the masses.

  • Defeat staring NDC in the face because NPP has delivered – Prof Dodoo

Defeat staring NDC in the face because NPP has delivered – Prof Dodoo

The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Standard Authority (GSA), Professor Alex Dodoo, has noted that the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has delivered on its mandate over the past three-and-a-half years in office.

He said the party should be voted for in the December 7 elections in order to consolidate the gains made.

Prof Dodoo noted that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s policies and programmes including the Free Senior High School, affect the lives of the ordinary Ghanaians in all parts of the country.

He said these while sharing his views on the violence that occurred between supporters of the NPP and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) within the Odododiodio Constituency last Sunday.

Prof Dodoo, an indigene of Odododiodio, said the NDC is now resorting to violence because they are fully aware of the defeat that is coming their way in the polls.

“It is very obvious that defeat is staring at the NDC and so they are resorting to violence,” he said.

“The work has been done by the NPP, considering the kind of programmes and interventions initiated by the government.

“We have the Free SHS and the other numerous interventions in place and so the work has been done,” he said on Accra-based Net 2 TV on Wednesday, 28th October.

  • Ododiodio clash: NPP, NDC peace walk was needless – NCCE

Ododiodio clash: NPP, NDC peace walk was needless – NCCE

Principal Civic Education officer at the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Madam Rebecca Colecraft has chastised sympathizers of National Democratic Congress and the New Patriotic Party for engaging in a peace walk in the Odododiodio constituency.

According to her, there was no need for the two groups to hold a peace walk as the NCCE has already educated the public on the subject ahead of the 2020 December polls.

Speaking on ‘Behind the Headlines’ programme on Radio Univers 105.7FM, Madam Rebecca Colecraft said that if indeed attitudes have changed as a result of peace campaigns undertaken by the Commission, then the two groups had no business hitting the street in the name of a peace walk.

“I understand that it was a peace march. If so, in the first place, where the NCCE has educated our citizenry to, if attitudes have changed, we don’t need a peace walk because, already we understand that; “it is my responsibility, it is your responsibility to live with each other in harmony,” she said.

Madam Rebecca Colecraft is hopeful that violent situations, such as what happened in the Odododiodio constituency, does not happen again.

She disclosed that the NCCE has constituted Inter-Party Dialogue Committees (IPDCs) in the various districts and constituencies.

“We have established IPDCs in all districts and constituencies. The IPDC is simply the Inter-Party Committee and it is made up of all political parties within that constituency, the security, religious bodies, media, the traditional authority, opinion leaders”, she stated.

She also spoke on the function and aim of the IGPCs.

“The main objective of the IPGCs is to name and shame, and also, to bring any of the divides whosoever would use intemperate language, language of insult, would not focus on issues to bring them to book,” she affirmed.

According to the Communications Officer of the party, Sammy Gyamfi, the NDC will next week provide a much comprehensive manifesto filled with promises it intends to keep.

Speaking in an interview with GhanaWeb on Tuesday, September 1, the communications officer said; “Our manifesto will be one that will create jobs and opportunity for all and not a select few.”

“This is a manifesto filled with well thought out and truthful policies and programmes that will be delivered by the former President Mahama and supported by his running mate, Prof. Jane Opoku-Agyeman when elected. So, we the [NDC] are not going to tell lies to the people of this country or make promises we don’t intend to keep,” he said.

Meanwhile, the flagbearer of the NDC John Dramani Mahama already disclosed some of the policies his party intends to implement if elected in the upcoming Decmember polls.

One of them is the provision of free primary health care to all and the ‘Big Push’ infrastructural initiative which will earmark some US$10 billion seeking to create about one million jobs and employ some 250,000 Ghanaians within four years.

The initiative would see the injection of the funds into infrastructural development to boost the construction and engineering sectors as well as other professionals and artisans.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ahafo region led by its secretary  Assanaba Imoro is demanding a one-month extension for the ongoing exercise of the National Identification Authority (NIA) card.

According to him, the exercises have been fraught with extreme challenges, hence, the majority of the Ahafo region population will go unregistered if the duration is not extended.

Mr Assanaba Imoro indicated that if the right things were not done to address the challenges confronting the exercise in the region, there would be a lack of confidence in the exercise which would make the NDC to resist any attempt to use the card as a requirement by the Electoral Commission (EC) for the 2020 polls.
