A 38-year-old man known as Asabil Asawe has been shot dead by nomadic herdsmen at Asratoase near Agogo in the Asante Akyem North District in the Ashanti region.

Reports indicated that the sad incident occurred on Sunday when the deceased was working on his sugar-cane farm.

In an interview with DFM, the District Police Commander of Asante Akim North, ASP James Ameka Asawe, explained that the Fulani herdsman shot the deceased in his lower abdomen.

“The shooting is believed to be a retaliation to a recent gun battle between one Mr. Jacob Azabil and six Fulani herdsmen during which two of the herdsmen died with one on life support.

“It is quite unfortunate the police seem handicapped in this situation but there is a poor road network to the area which makes it inaccessible; the area is a swampy-marshy area and so in the rainy season, you can’t get to the place,” he stated.

ASP Asawe disclosed that the farmer was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Agogo Presbyterian Hospital with his body currently at the hospital morgue
