    • TV presenter Delay shed tears in her interview with singer Dhat Gyal

    • Delay noted that she can relate to the life struggles of the 22-year-old singer

    • She has advised the singer to stay away from drugs and bad company

It was an emotional sight when television presenter, Deloris Frimpong Manso, well known as Delay couldn’t hold back her tears during an interview with young female musician, Dhat Gyal.

The life story and struggles of the singer who has battled drug addiction in the past according to Delay is very touching.

The TV presenter revealed that she suffered a similar fate but managed to fight through the storms to succeed in life.

Narrating her story, Dhat Gyal revealed that she was introduced to hard drugs at a young age. The dancehall musician also disclosed that she was raped by an unknown man in 2016.

“In 2016, I accompanied a friend and an unknown lady to Mile 7. The woman led us into a house which was occupied by three guys. All of a sudden the woman told us that she had to leave because she has been informed that her baby was crying. Then, I decided that we will all leave but she insisted that we stayed behind.

“It wasn’t clear to me but she assured us that the guys won’t hurt us. After she left, the guys got us some drink but I still wasn’t okay. All of a sudden, one of the guys started touching me and I hesitated. He then got angry and disclosed that the woman who brought us to the house was paid some money. He said they gave the woman money to bring us. He angrily stood up and locked the door. He pounced on me and raped me. Asides from raping me, I was mercilessly beaten,” said the singer.

She added that her mother died just a year after completing Junior High School. Her mother was knocked down by a speeding driver around the Tesano Police Depot in 2016.

Delay who was touched by her story advised the singer against the use of hard drugs and also charged her to avoid bad company.

She said: “Personally, I was telling your management before the interview, even before we met that there are things about you that feel like you are mirroring me in a certain way. You remind me of when I was younger, right from the time my mother died, me trying to find my way in the industry but luckily for me, I didn’t end up with the wrong company. I would say it was by luck but you have tasted that, but I still feel that you are very beautiful, talented, and still very young, 22 years

“I think you should find God and find him well, He will guide you well. With the kind of industry you want to break out from, it’s God who can kick your demons out and help you to really discover yourself. All hope is not lost, I saw you crying during the interview. Were you crying because you feel all hope is lost?… If I have been able to succeed in this life, judging from my beginnings and struggles.. just keep your eyes on the goal and be strong.”

Delay who couldn’t hold back her tears towards the tail end of the interview, assured the singer that there was hope for the future.

“Avoid bad company, bad company corrupts a good life. I beg you, stay away from drugs, it will destroy you. Keep your voice fresh and keep on serenading us with good music. Don’t destroy your voice with the drugs, I beg you. I want to be able to sit back and watch you succeed (breaks down). I don’t want you to mess yourself up, I hope you are listening. I am so glad you came,” Delay told the singer, Dhat Gyal.

Chief Imam gives GHS50, 000 for the construction of the National Cathedral

The National Chief, Imam Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, on Thursday, 26 August 2021, made a contribution of GHS50, 000 for the construction of the National Cathedral.

The cathedral is President Nana Akufo-Addo’s promise to God after he was elected President in the 2016 election.

The national chief imam made the donation when the board of trustees for the National Cathedral project paid a courtesy call on him at his office in Accra.

The spokesperson for the Chief Imam, Sheikh Aremeyaw Shuaibu in a Citi News interview said the gesture was to further deepen the peaceful coexistence between Christians and Muslims in the country.

According to him, the donation by the Chief Imam is to demonstrate the mutual cooperation that exists between Ghanaians of all religious faith.

“As Ghanaians, we are all practitioners of a different faith, and we are able to sit around the same table and have an opportunity to discuss things and whatever comes by way of disagreement to really work and maintain our harmony, and we should not do anything to disturb our relationship. In fact, he said we should not use politics to disturb our relationship, and that we should keep politics aside and rather, as practitioners of different faiths, let’s all get united and see what we can do in the interest of our country.”

“He also said we should be mindful of that fact that God has given us peace at the time when nations around us have been plunged into conflict, and he said it is in the spirit of solidarity and mutual cooperation that he donated the GHS50,000 as a token contribution towards the construction of the National Cathedral.”

The Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the National Cathedral, Apostle Opoku Onyinah, who was pleased with the contribution, called on Ghanaians to emulate the gesture.

We are extremely grateful to the Chief Imam for the contribution and also to those who haven’t understood the concept to exercise patience and follow the advice of the National Chief Imam that we should not begin to accuse one another and that religion should bring us together and should not divide us.

The Finance Minister announced in parliament that Ghanaians should voluntarily make a donation of GHS100 towards the project which is expected to be constructed at a cost of $200 million.

Meanwhile, vice-president Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has said he has also contributed towards the construction of the cathedral and he will contribute more as the project progresses.

Speaking at the Adabraka Official Town branch of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana on Sunday, 22 August 2021, Vice-president Bawumia underscored the importance of the Cathedral, and urged all to help build it “for Ghana and for the glory of God.”

“As you all know, there are efforts to build a National Cathedral”.

“It is very important that we build the Cathedral. It is a voluntary exercise; anybody who wants to contribute can contribute. I have contributed, and I will contribute some more”.

“So, I encourage everybody to think about it and let’s build it. It is not for anybody. It is for Ghana and for the glory of God,” he emphasized.

A voluntary, national contribution for the construction of the cathedral would further cement Ghana’s standing as a religiously diverse country living at peace with itself”.

“Ghana is Africa’s second most peaceful country, with adherents of many religions living and working together to build the nation”.

“The construction of the cathedral would add further to our enviable record of peaceful co-existence,” he stated.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, accompanied by senior members of the Clergy, laid the foundation stone for the Cathedral on March 5, 2020, to signal the start of construction. A National Cathedral Secretariat has since been set up to raise funds from individuals and the private sector for its construction, while work continues apace.

The cathedral will house a series of impressive chapels, a baptistery, a 5000-seat two-level auditorium, a grand central hall, music school, choir rehearsal, art gallery, shop, and multi-use spaces.

It will also be home to Africa’s first Bible Museum and Documentation Centre, dedicated to Christianity and nation-building in Ghana.

A new ceremonial route and landscape will be linking the Cathedral site to Ghana’s prominent, celebratory landmarks – Independence Square, Osu Cemetery, the State House, and Africa Unity Circle.

“While we have not totally eliminated the suffering of Ghanaians and Ghanaian workers, we can point to specific policy interventions that have mitigated the suffering that we talked about,” Dr. Bawumia said.

The Vice President listed several social interventions including de-freezing of public sector employment, which has led to the recruitment of thousands of nurses and teachers, creation of NABCO to reduce graduate unemployment, expansion of recruitment into the security services and reduction of electricity tariffs.

Other interventions he listed included: restoration of nursing and teacher trainee allowances, employment interventions through the Youth Employment Agency, industrialization through 1D1F, abolition of many taxes, employment opportunities to people with disability to man toll booths, Free SHS, government’s covid-19 alleviation packages, among others.

Open the borders, hunger is killing us — Ketu Youth to Akufo-Addo

Ketu Youth in Development Network in the Volta Region is demanding President Akufo-Addo open the borders to save them from dying from hunger.

Ghana’s land borders have been closed since March 15, 2020. The decision was announced by the President as a measure to control the importation of the Coronavirus (Covid-19) into the country.

After more than a year, the Ketu Youth in Development Network says people living in and around border areas of the Volta Region are suffering.

“Our mothers and sisters who hawk around the Ghana and Togo border for their daily bread are now siting at home due to absence of an alternative means of livelihood, drivers are complaining about low patronage due to the border closure while they continue to pay huge price for fuel. Artisans who buy their raw materials from Togo have to shut down their businesses because they do not have a means to access them,” part of a release from the group dated August 15 read.

    SEE ALSO:

Fed up with the economic hardships, the group is demanding the reopening of Ghana’s borders to ensure those whose sources of livelihoods have been taken from them get something to do to feed themselves and their families.

“We are by this release reminding the President about his deliberate silence on the closure of the land borders and the economic impact it continues to have on the indigenous people in and around those areas, especially the southern part of Volta Region.

“Therefore, we are appealing to the conscience of the president as the father of the nation to as matter urgency open the land borders, so that economic activities can be partially restored to reduce the current hardship the people are subjected to. We believe with all the safety protocols and the strict enforcement therein, livelihood would pick up once again,” the release from Ketu Youth in Development Network concludes.

Free SHS is Struggling to Survive- NDC Communicator

A member of the NDC Communications Team, Osman Ayariga has stated that, the Free SHS policy is struggling to survive.

He explained the policy is on its knees begging to survive because it was not properly implemented by the NPP Government.

“Free SHS is on its knees begging, the Minister of Education is currently engaging parents to solicit funds to sustain it. Parents are now paying more on education under the Free SHS policy than it used to be,” he stated.

Speaking to host of Prime Morning Show, Daniel Dadzie on the Joy Prime Channel Monday, the outspoken communicator said, the policy is not working due to lack of funds. According to him, the phenomenon is affecting students’ performance.

“Students go to school for six months and stay home another six months. Parents are forced to pay for extra classes which are expensive than the actual school fees,” he added.

The Free Senior High School (Free SHS) education policy was a government initiative introduced in September 2017 under President Akufo-Addo.

Prior to its implementation, the policy was an integral part of NPP’s campaign during 2012 and 2016 elections.

The policy’s seeks to address issues with access, equity, and equality in fulfilling the United Nations modified Sustainable Development Goals, where member countries amalgamate those themes in their educational systems to certify adequate learning experiences for students.

However, the policy had received setbacks in terms of financing and infrastructure. This resulted in the Double-track system. The system has students grouped into Gold and Green batches. The batches run shift to complete a semester due the inability of most Senior High Schools’ to accommodate them.

Mr. Ayariga explained that the Free SHS was not properly financed. He believes this has degraded Senior High Education in the country.

“People should not talk as if Free SHS has solved Ghana’s problems; Government needs to do more because the policy was not properly implemented, forcing parents to pay extra fees. The party has failed to live up to expectations,” he stressed.

China Criticises US over withdrawal From Afghanistan

China has criticised the US withdrawal from Afghanistan, accusing Washington of having “selfish” foreign policy priorities.

It said the US had used the rhetoric of a rules-based global order to defend its own “bullying, hegemonic behaviour”.

“The US can wantonly conduct military intervention in a sovereign country and does not need to be responsible for the suffering of the people in that country,” foreign ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin told a press briefing.
“The US can arbitrarily smear, suppress, coerce and bully other countries without paying any price,” he added.

The Afghanistan exit has been a golden opportunity for China to convince the Asian public that the US cannot be trusted, experts say.

Meanwhile, China has called at that meeting of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva for the US, UK, and other countries to “be held accountable for the violation of human rights committed by their military in Afghanistan”.
