  • Agyapa Royalties Deal: Biggest Corruption Scandal Since Independence – Amidu Fires

Agyapa Royalties Deal: Biggest Corruption Scandal Since Independence – Amidu Fires

Former Special Prosecutor Martin A.B.K Amidu has described the Agyapa Royalties deal as the mother of all corruption since Ghana gained independence in 1957.

This is captured in his latest epistle in response to the presidency’s comment after accepting his (Amidu’s) resignation weeks back.

Mr Amidu resigned from his position as Ghana’s first Special Prosecutor on November 16, 2020.

In his resignation letter, he cited amongst other things political interference from the president as a reason for his decision. He accused the President of interfering in his work with regards to the Agyapa deal and wanted him to ‘shelve’ the report.

In accepting Mr. Amidu’s resignation, President Akufo-Addo denied ever interfering in his work and rather said he gave him all the assistance and independence to operate.

But in a 27-page response to the Presidency, the citizen vigilante said; “I have underscored the deliberate distortions and manipulations of facts contained in the opening paragraphs of your letter written to me on the directives and instructions of the President to demonstrate that your letter to me from its inception was intended to be the personification of falsehoods to the good people of Ghana and to divert public attention from a very important and serious anti-corruption assessment in respect of the Agyapa Royalties Limited Transaction documents report which I conducted professionally as the first Special Prosecutor of Ghana.”

“The Agyapa Royalties Limited Transaction contains the mother of all suspended corruption and corruption-related offences to be discovered in the first analysis of the risk of the prevention of corruption and anti-corruption assessment since Ghana attained its independence in 1957,” Amidu stated.

To him, the President Akufo-Addo can best pass for the kingpin of corruption, and indicted the latter for taking the presidential “oath while looking like the innocent flower of anti-corruption but being the mother serpent of corruption under it.”

“I resigned my position as the Special Prosecutor because of the traumatic experience I suffered from the reaction of the President who breached his Presidential oath by unlawfully obstructing me from taking any further steps on the Agyapa Royalties Transactions from 20th October 2020 to 1 November 2020.”

“When I met the President on 23rd October 2020, I received the shock of my life when he demanded that I took no further action on the Agyapa royalties transaction anti-corruption assessment report for another week. That was when it was divinely revealed to me that the President whom I trusted so much for integrity only looked like the innocent flower of anti-corruption but he was really the mother corruption serpent under the innocent-looking flower,” he added.

PPP flagbearer urges trust for EC

The presidential candidate of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) has entreated political party leaders to have some level of trust in the electoral process for the sake of peace in the country.

Brigitte Dzogbenuku, however, called for a review of the 1992 Constitution to prevent the appointment of the Chair of the Electoral Commission by a political party in power.

“There are issues coming up about the non-transparency in the Electoral Commission and the fact the EC is in bed with some political party,” she noted.

“It’s a fundamental thing we have to deal with but we all need to have a certain level of trust in the process.

“Nonetheless, this should pave way for a review of the constitution so that no Electoral Commissioner is appointed by any particular government in power. We must go with a system that is trusted by any Ghanaian.”

According to the wife of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Mahama incompetence won’t allow for the creation of those jobs.

“Let us not be deceived. My question to him is if he knew how to create one million jobs, why didn’t he do it when he was in power? If the NDC is capable, why didn’t they do it in the eight years they were in power?” Bawumia asked while addressing the chiefs and people of Nsuta|Kwamang|Beposo constituency in the Ashanti region.

Mahama has promised to pursue an aggressive job and entrepreneurial programme in the public and private sector when elected president again.

Corruption scandals can take Akufo-Addo to opposition – Ben Ephson

Corruption scandals in the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo led administration can take him to the opposition, Pollster and Managing Editor of the Daily Dispatch Newspaper Mr. Benjamin Emmanuel Ephson has said.

According to Mr. Ephson, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) may be left off the hook due to that fact that, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has not been able to use it against the Akufo-Addo government as it happened otherwise in the 2016 elections.

“Yes it (corruption) will affect the NPP but unfortunately the NDC hasn’t been able to take advantage as the NPP did when Mahama was in power. The NDC has not been able to take the corruption allegations well against the NPP and that could be their own doing”. Mr. Ben Ephson said this in an interview with GBC radio programme Behind the News monitored by MyNewsGH.com.

Corruption pervasive under NPP – Alhassan Suhuyini

“A lot of people who thought President Akufo-Addo and his government were going to fight against corruption have come to the conclusion that corruption has grown wings and has become bigger and more pervasive under this government.”

Mr Suhuyini’s comment comes on the heels of the report weeks ago from the Office of the Special Prosecutor indicting the former President, John Dramani Mahama as “Government official 1” in the Airbus bribery scandal.

  • Political Rallies Do Not Cause COVID Spikes – Says Ghana Health Service (GHS)

Political Rallies Do Not Cause COVID Spikes – Says Ghana Health Service (GHS)

The Ghana Health Service has said scientific data do not support assertions that political rallies can cause a spike in COVID-19 cases in the country.

With less than two weeks to the 7 December 2020 general elections, many political parties have been crisscrossing the country with mass rallies, which has raised concerns of public safety in this time of the pandemic.

But addressing the press on Ghana’s fight against the pandemic on Wednesday, 25 November 2020, the Director-General of the Health Service, Dr Patrick Kuma-Aboagye, advised Ghanaians to be more careful in enclosed places with no ventilation rather than open spaces.

He noted that although large rallies do not lead to a spike in the disease, political parties should not let their guard down on the COVID-19 protocols.

Dr Kuma-Aboagye said: “For the rallies, it’s about science and data and there’s no evidence that any rally has led to an outbreak but even in all that, if the rallies were causing the outbreaks, the rallies don’t only occur in Accra because the larger rallies occur outside Accra and we’re not seeing any outbreaks there but that is not to say that we’re not being cautious”.

“We’re still talking to people about the use of masks and we’ve explained to the parties that they should encourage the use of masks. Because it’s an open space, ventilation is ok and the virus doesn’t do well under such environment.

“Of course after the event, people will move into small spaces and that changes the dynamics and, so, people must still wear the mask for protection at all places. There are riskier areas…so it’s the enclosed areas that we must be more careful about”.

Meanwhile, it was disclosed that the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) has recorded a total of 120 new cases of COVID-19 infections in the month of November, bringing the total number of imported cases to 264 since the reopening of the airport, as directed by President Nana Akufo-Addo.

Dr Kuma-Aboagye explained that the latest surge in COVID cases is as a result of the second wave being experienced in the Americas and Europe.

He, however, noted that efforts are still underway to limit a further spread of the virus.

He added that plans are also in place to deploy potential vaccines developed by global corporations once they have been validated by the World Health Organization (WHO).

  • NPP’s Manifesto Is Heavy On Track Record Of Achievements – Hadzide

NPP’s Manifesto Is Heavy On Track Record Of Achievements – Hadzide

A Deputy Minister of Information, Mr Pius Enam Hadzide, says the New Patriotic Party’s 2020 Manifesto comprised track record of achievements within a mandate, whilst the opposition National Democratic Congress’ Manifesto is full of promises with nothing to show on achievements.

He explained that since both the NPP and NDC have had the opportunity to govern the nation at one point in time, it was prudent for each party to provide its track record of achievements within a mandate, instead of promises.

Speaking at the 11th Edition of the Nation Building Updates in Accra on Tuesday, Mr Hadzide said the NPP-led government had fulfilled its electoral promises to Ghanaians and was bold and confident to display its track records, unlike the NDC that had nothing to show, but promises.

Mr Hadzide said President Akufo-Addo was smart, compassionate and intelligent by creating new regions that would become growth poles for those areas.

He said most of the departmental directorates in the new regions had been cited in rural settings to help propel the expansion of economies of those areas.

The 11th Edition of the programme allowed the newly created regions namely; Oti, Ahafo, Bono East, North East, Savannah and Western North regional ministers to render accounts of their stewardship upon assumption of office.

The event provides a platform for government ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) to render accounts of their stewardship, as part of the Government’s accountability efforts.

The regional ministers provided pictorial evidence of development projects within their jurisdictions comprising construction of school blocks and roads and upgrading of existing ones.

They also gave data on beneficiaries of government’s flagship initiatives like Planting for Food and Jobs, Free Senior High School Policy, Rearing for Food and Export, Planting for Export and Rural Development, One-Village, One-Dam, and One Constituency, One-Ambulance.

The regional ministers were unanimous in their call for the electorate to renew the mandate of President Akufo-Addo in the December 7 Election to undertake more developmental projects.

Meanwhile, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia will, on Thursday, November 26, take his turn at the 12th Edition of the Nation Building Updates at the University of Ghana, to provide key highlights on Government’s interventions.

  • Headmaster Of Tempane SHS To Be Reinstated – Mahama

Headmaster Of Tempane SHS To Be Reinstated – Mahama

Mr John Dramani Mahama, Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has promised to reinstate the dismissed Headmaster of Tempane Senior High School (SHS) when voted to form his next government.

He noted that the headmaster was victimized and removed from office by the current government for allowing officials of the NDC to enter the school’s compound to talk to students.

He said ironically, officials of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) had been to SHSs to campaign but those headmasters, who permitted them entry, were still at post.

Speaking at a mini rally in Garu in the Upper East Region, Mr Mahama said: “Former headmaster of the Tempane Secondary School, I salute you wherever you are. And I can assure you that NDC is winning and when NDC wins we shall fully reinstate you. And whatever you have lost would be recompensed to you”.

With regards to the free SHS, the Presidential Candidate assured Ghanaians that his next administration would maintain and improve it.

He said they would eliminate the double track system within the space of one year adding that NDC was a Party that brought monumental development to Ghanaians.

Mr Mahama said the rural electrification project that started under his first administration would be continued in the next one, and that all villages would be connected to the national grid.

He appealed to Ghanaians to vote the NDC back to power to continue its good works and cautioned supporters and sympathizers against “skirt and blouse” voting.

Mr Mahama is being accompanied on his four-day tour of the Upper East Region by leading members of the NDC including Professor Joshua Alabi, National Campaign Manager; Alhaji Sofo Azorka, a National Vice Chairman; Alhaji Mumuni Bolnaba, Upper East Regional Chairman; Mr Cletus Avoka, NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Zebilla, and Mahama Ayariga, Member of Parliament for Bawku Central.

  • Akufo-Addo Doesn’t Deserve 4 More – Horace Ankrah

    Akufo-Addo Doesn’t Deserve 4 More – Horace Ankrah

A former Ambassador under the erstwhile Mahama administration, Horace Ankrah has touched the hearts of floating voters by appealing to them to vote massively for the opposition NDC and John Mahama.

Horace is making this appeal through a viral video over what he termed as ‘FAILURE’ of the NPP and Nana Akufo-Addo in fulfilling their 2016 promises.

“In 2016, we were promised a host of things including education infrastructure, technology, housing, name them. They have not fulfilled their promises. To date, everything by the NPP government is in process. NPP has injured the dignity of the school-going Ghanaian,” Ambassador Horace said.

    Quotes from the video:

“You remember what happened at Independence Square, where our children were converged just to go and get school placement and our children fainted under the scorching sun; You remember the promise that they made of building schools, 300 schools.

“…They have failed! They’ve not built any. The Yellow and Green track that they implemented have also failed. You know what it has brought to families?

“My Dear floating voter, I’m appealing to you, that this government under these areas that I have mentioned, education which they have failed, housing which they have failed, the technology which they can’t speak to, Health, no hospitals built, the promise of 88 hospitals that was going to be started last July has never been started.

“…Failed promises! President Dramani Mahama has promised us so many things that he, when he is elected as the President back into power at 2020, he is definitely going to make sure that Ghana moves forward.

“Touching on the free water being provided by the NPP he showed a sample of the water which had some particles in it making it unhealthy to drink.

“Let me show you the Floating Voter something, your good health is paramount not only to your family, not only to your children, not only your grandchildren but to your good health is very very important to the nation.

“Listen and watch this, this is the kind of water that is being served you and I by the current administration led by President Akufo-Addo. Remember they said in their first two years every single home in Ghana will have water and toilet none has been fulfilled. This is the water that you are being served in this country,” he concluded.
