Martha Pobee Grapes UN Deal as Assistant Secretary
The acting Chief Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integrations Martha Pobee is appointed the Assistant Secretary-General for Africa. Ambassador Pobee will be serving in the Departments of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs and Peace Operations (DPPA-DPO). She takes up a new assignment as a secretary-general special representative and head of the united nations organization stabilization mission in DR Congo.
A statement from the UN signed by the secretary-general Antonio Guerres said the Secretary-General is deeply grateful for her service and contributions as the first General Secretary for Africa in DPPA, DPO. Ambassador Pobee has been in the service as the acting Chief Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integrations of the Republic of Ghana since March 2021.

She was the ambassador and permanent representative of the Republic of Ghana to the United Nations from July 2015 to November 2021 and also the first female to hold that position.
As a career Diplomat since 1989, she has held various positions in the Ghana Foreign Ministry and served afloat indifferent capacities in Ghana’s missions in Moscow, Geneva, Washington, and Pretoria.
