The Director of the Kenya Anti-corruption Commission and Director of the Kenya School of Law as well as a Pan-Africanist, Professor Patrick Loch Otieno Lumumba, in a zoom interview with Maxwell Nkansah stated how disappointed he is by the president of Ghana.

According to him, the President of Ghana at the beginning of his tenure of office had the vision to uplift the country in terms of industrialization and development but so far there is nothing to show with growing tales of mismanagement.

He then added that he wishes the President of Ghana could rebuild himself to becoming the enhanced President the country needs. Professor Patrick Lumumba also bemoaned the spectacle of the parliament of Ghana seeking the approval of payment for the presidential spouse.

He further stated that the demonstration by the Ghanaian youth on the street of Accra, the capital city of Ghana evidently shows the frustration of voters and how tough life is becoming under the leadership of the Akufor Addo administration.

He said, the president still has the intellectual fire powers of leadership but things haven’t been the way he rumored would go for him.

In the course of the interview, Professor Lumumba’s opinion was asked whether the short-term implementation of the ECO currency is sustainable. “I believe the year duration of 3 to 4 years is short for the implementation of the new currency which will be used by the whole African continent.

According to him, a maximum of 10 years should be used to implement the ECO currency due to the difference in economic conditions within various African countries to deal with their micro and macro-economic issues”. He added. He stated that this was the vision of the First President and the founder of Ghana, Dr Kwame Nkrumah.

He said he held the view that it was far overdue for such steps to be taken and believed it will become one of the strong currencies in the world.

The Pan-Africanist PLO Lumumba also lamented on seeing the Africa he loves with his heart having a continent that will be free from corruption. He further stated that in the course of fighting corruption, deliberate actions must be taken to combat corruption by making an example of those who participate in it.

Loch Otieno Lumumba stressed the need to keep corrupt people out of office and harped on the need to strip public officials of any ill-gotten wealth while in the exercise of their duties.

President’s Akufo-Addo swearing-in ceremony to be held in parliament not the Black Star Square

The swearing-in of President Akufo-Addo which is scheduled for January 7, 2021, will be held in parliament contrary to the norm where it is held at the Black Square.

This follows an appeal by parliamentarians to have subsequent swearing-in done in the precincts of Ghana’s parliament and not the independence square.

This was conveyed by Deputy Information Mister Pius Enam Hadzide at a press briefing in Accra today where he said: “the transition team has favourably considered the request of Parliament and has decided that the swearing of President Akufo-Addo on January 7, shall happen before Parliament and within the precincts of Parliament.”

President Akufo-Addo was declared the winner of the 2020 presidential election by the Electoral Commission. The election which has been described as a closely contested one is still in dispute as the main opposition party NDC and John Mahama have refused to accept the outcome.

  • Coronavirus: 100-bed Infectious Disease Centre to be operationalized soon – Akufo-Addo.

Coronavirus: 100-bed Infectious Disease Centre to be operationalized soon – Akufo-Addo.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has announced that the 100-bed Infectious Disease Centre will be opened in the coming days to aid in the country’s fight against the Coronavirus pandemic.

In his 19th address on the pandemic, Nana Akufo-Addo said that the facility which will be operationalized in the coming days will be managed by the Ghana Health Service.

Nana Akufo-Addo said that despite the number of hospitalized covid-19 victims being low, it is imperative that the country provides adequate care for the patients.

“In as much as our hospitalization rates are very low, care for the sick and the provision of treatment remain an important aspect of our strategy. To this end, the one hundred-bed Ghana Infectious Diseases Centre, located at the Ga East Hospital, will be opened in the next few days, under the management of the Ghana Health Service,” he hinted.

President Akufo-Addo also said that the government has made moves to procure more health equipment and PPEs to enhance healthcare delivery in the country.

“The provision of adequate medicines, equipment, and personal protective equipment to enable health workers to attend to home-based patients has also been guaranteed.”

Nana Akufo-Addo warned leaders of the various political parties to make mask wearing a part of their campaigns.
“Fellow Ghanaians, with a month to the conduct of the 7th December presidential and parliamentary elections, there would, obviously, be an intensification of political party activities in all parts of the country, with its accompanying human contact. Nevertheless, I encourage political party leaders and supporters, at the very at least, to wear the mask at all times at these gatherings.

“This task is not only for the leaders of our political parties. All of us, in the Executive, Legislature, Judiciary, public sector, security agencies, private sector, civil society, professional and trade associations, religious bodies, traditional authorities and ordinary citizens, must do what we can, in this period, to help minimize disease transmission”.

In a bid to enhance contact tracing measures, the president says it has instructed the release of vehicles and other logistics.

“I have instructed the release of additional logistics, including vehicles, to the Ghana Health Service in order to help beef up contact tracing, and the supervision and monitoring of asymptomatic cases being managed from home…We are also employing the use of technology to augment our contact tracing efforts, as well as the supervision and monitoring of home care cases,” he added.
