  • We’ve missed football but we can’t risk our lives to play – Elmina Sharks skipper Crentsil

We’ve missed football but we can’t risk our lives to play – Elmina Sharks skipper Crentsil

Elmina Sharks skipper Daniel Obeng Crentsil, has said that they’ve missed playing football but they can not risk their lives amid the Coronavirus pandemic.

There has been no football in the country since the suspension of sporting activities in March due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

The Ghana Football Association is yet to outline its plans on how football can return safely, but the GFA would prefer to restart football in October.

According to Crenstil, adequate measures must be put in place before any consideration to resume football.

“We’ve missed football because it is part of our lives. This is where we mostly derive our joy from when playing but now it’s no more,” he told GNA Sports.

“It’s very frustrating not playing since March. This is the career we’ve chosen and feed our families from. We get bonuses when we’re playing but now it’s no more because of COVID.”

“However our safety is of much concern to us. We can’t risk our lives to play football when measures are not put in place. Adequate measures must be put in place before we restart Football in the country.”

The midfielder joined Sharks in April this year and has previously played for WAFA and New Edubiase.

Stephen Appiah implores legendary Tony Yeboah to return to football administration

Former Blak Stars skipper, Stephen Appiah has urged legendary striker, Anthony Yeboah to return to football administration.

Yeboah has been out of football after selling Yegoala FC in 2005 due to the consistent demand of bribe from match officials.

The Ghana international who had a fruitful career at Leeds United and in Germany has insisted that he has no intention of returning to football.

However, Stephen Appiah appealed to Yeboah to come out from self-imposed exile from the sport and offer his vast knowledge and experience to Ghana football.

“It’s sad that he is no longer interested in football. When I was made Black Stars, he was the second person I called,” he told Asempa FM.

“I want to thank him for everything he has done for football but he shouldn’t get out of the game.”

“I’m begging him not to follow the criticism but offer his support to the sport,” Appiah added.

GHANA LACKS THE NO HOW TO WIN THE AFCON -KWESI APPIAH

Former Black Stars coach James Kwesi Appiah says the country should focus on developing players before they can end their AFCON trophy drought.

“We can’t just say we are going to win AFCON, we need to have a long term plan for our national teams and groom quality players before we can win the AFCON,” he told AtinkaFm

MOU TAKES A SWIPE AT FORMER CLUBS’ ACADEMIES

New Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho appears to have taken a swipe at the academies of his former clubs – which include Chelsea and Manchester United – whilst praising the youth set-up at Spurs.

Mourinho has not often been associated with the development of young players, but he insists that it is something that he wants to do.

However, he feels that the groundwork was not laid for him to do so in previous jobs, whilst he believes that Spurs have an academy that can be utilised.

I really like this squad and looking to the young players – there is not one manager in the world that doesn’t like to play young players and to help young players to develop – not one,” Mourinho said to Tottenham’s official website.

The problem is that sometimes you get into clubs where the work that is below you is not good enough to produce these players, so I look to our history and you see that the academy is always giving the talents that the first team needs. Of course, I look forward to [working] with that profile.

To play against Tottenham at White Hart Lane was always hard but beautiful. It was one of these places where I used to go with passion but also with respect. I always spoke about the club’s potential. I always spoke about the qualities of the players. I always spoke about the magnificent work the club was doing.

WALES QUALIFIES FOR EURO AFTER HUNGARY DEFEAT

Aaron Ramsey was Wales’ hero as Ryan Giggs’ side secured qualification for Euro 2020 with a 2-0 home win over Hungary.

One of the stand-out performers in his country’s surprise run to the semi-finals of Euro 2016, Ramsey was making his first start of the current campaign following persistent fitness problems.

But the Juventus midfielder re-announced himself in style at a fervent Cardiff City Stadium, scoring a goal in each half as Wales deservedly claimed the win they needed to leapfrog Hungary and take the second automatic qualifying spot in Group E.

Gareth Bale, Daniel James, and the goal scorer buzzed effectively behind imposing target man Kieffer Moore throughout, although Giggs was also indebted to some first-half heroics from goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey.
