Hearts of Oak MD Frederick Moore insists club will not force any player to stay

Managing Director of Accra Hearts of Oak, Mr. Frederick Moore has reiterated the club’s stance on allowing players who are not willing to play for them.

According to Mr. Moore, the club is only interested in working with players, who are committed to their course.

He was responding to reports that striker Kofi Kordzi wants to leave the club, having received a lucrative offer from Qatar.

The deal reportedly worth $200,000 has been rejected by the club, however, Kordzi is said to be forcing his way out of the club.

“If any player wants to go, we won’t force them to stay in the club, Football is a team game and we have to find the best team possible to win not the best individual to win,” Frederick Moore said on Oyerepa FM.

He made similar comments when the club failed to extend the contract of Joseph Esso due to his huge demands.

The striker has now joined fellow Ghana Premier League club, Dreams FC.

Meanwhile, the Phobians have begun fresh contract talks with Robert Addo, Emmanuel Nettey, Benjamin Afutu and others.

  • I have a licensed gun to protect myself – Prophet Owusu Bempah

I have a licensed gun to protect myself – Prophet Owusu Bempah

Famous Ghanaian prophet, Rev. Owusu Bempah has emphatically disclosed that he walks around with a loaded firearm ready to defend himself from any attack on his life.

The man of God in an interview at Kingdom Plus on Afrojoint with Fiifi Pratt, when asked why a man of God would carry a firearm to protect himself, said that Jesus Christ did not prohibit his followers from carrying weapons on them.

He added that Jesus himself encouraged his disciples to get more weapons and in that era, a sword was the most commonly used weapon as firearms were not invented.

“Jesus Christ admonished his disciples to get more swords for themselves; so Peter and John had theirs. So when a soldier attempted to arrest Jesus, Peter drew his sword, not to cut the ears of the soldier but his head.

Jesus Christ then urged Peter to put his sword back to his strap, not to throw it away; so this proves that it was a good thing they were armed with swords,” he stated.

Therefore, in place of a sword, he owns a licensed gun which he claimed is fully loaded.

Rev. Owusu Bempah, having said that, disclosed that men of God are mostly the target of many armed robbers or perhaps hitmen.

He, therefore, asserted that it will be wise for a man of God like himself to protect himself from some useless persons from coming to end his life.

  • Ghanaian Times: Policy on reopening of basic schools amid Coronavirus

Ghanaian Times: Policy on reopening of basic schools amid Coronavirus

We reported in yesterday’s issue of the Ghanaian Times an appeal to the government to reconsider the decision not to open all streams of schools in the country.

The appeal, which was made by the Executive Director of Child Rights International (CRI), Mr Bright Appiah, said allowing second-year students in both junior and senior high schools to resume classes, while the rest stayed at home had worse repercussions for children.

In a statement issued in Accra in apparent response to the government’s decision not to reopen basic schools due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Mr Appiah said the social structure that existed among families, the society and the entire nation had not changed to accommodate and provide the needed tuition for children at home.

Additionally, he explained that the corporate environment of the country had not adjusted its time lines to allow families to spend more time with their children at home.

The statement further argued that the media, especially television and social media did not have adequate educational programmes to aid children’s academic growth at home.

“The government, since March 16, closed all schools due to  spread COVID-19 in the country but had since reopened tertiary institutions, senior and junior high schools,” it said.

However, the government has stated categorically that those basic schools would remain closed until further notice.

The decision of the government, we believe, is purely based on science and data and so just as it has been able to do for other segments of the educational ladder, the government would reopen the schools when the time is due.

Do not forget, in July, pre-tertiary teacher unions in Ghana held a press conference in Accra and called on the government to shut down schools due to COVID-19 spread in the schools a few weeks after reopening.

According to the teacher unions then, measures instituted by the authorities to ensure safety of both staff and students had not been implemented to prevent the spread of the disease.

The Ghanaian Times believes that information provided by the teacher unions is very useful and if any consideration is to be made for the reopening of the schools, these are some of the pieces of information which should be taken into account.

We think the government must consider the suggestion from CRI whilst it considers all the necessary protocols before reopening the schools.

We agree with CRI that keeping the schools closed may affect the children’s education in many ways but as we know it now, we are not in normal times and COVID-19 appears to have come to stay and may be with us for a long time.

It is, therefore, in our interest and that of our children to tread cautiously while instituting measures that would prevent the spread of COVID-19  when the schools reopen.

Do not forget the children must be alive to attend school.

  • “I remember I was so broke that I had to order an appetizer as a meal” – Tiwaa Savage shares hustle story

“I remember I was so broke that I had to order an appetizer as a meal” – Tiwaa Savage shares hustle story

The journey to success is never straight, broad and full of roses. It is completely the opposite; a narrow, crooked road full of thorns and setbacks. This is the success story of famous Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage.

From a distance, Tiwa Savage is seen as a very well-to-do woman who has worked very hard to attain a certain status in society with a sizeable amount of luxury and wealth.

However, her rise to prominence was a tough one. Narrating her hustle story at a surprise party organised by her friends and family for her “Celia” album launch, the award-winning singer had a lot to share.

“I think I was 22 and we were in New York. I was living in Bed-Stuy, kind of like a shelter. A lot of people didn’t know this.

“I was in a shelter for women that had drug abuse problems.

“I just graduated from school. You know as an international student you can’t work. So, I couldn’t work. I was doing the side thing in Bed-Stuy which is like the hood in Brooklyn.”

“Elohor came to NewYork, Elohor has always been that girl… she’s like let’s go to … she was like let’s just hook up, let’s go and eat.

“We went to Timesquare, I ordered appetizer because I was so broke and I was so hungry! And I remember she was just looking at me asking what are you ordering and I was like I’m not really hungry… and then she just kept asking me are you sure… and I just started crying and when asked what is the matter I was like Elohor i don’t have money…

“She started ordering stuff and even ordered stuff for me to take home. .. and I just remembered going home to my box (in the shelter) and I just started crying and I was like I can’t believe this girl just made my day…”

“So the first time when they posted my picture on Timesquare, she was the first person I called to say Elohor do you remember the first time… that was twenty years later… If I gave up five years ago I wouldn’t be saying this story. Don’t let time rob you of your joy…”

If you are to base your judgment of Tiwa Savage on his current status, you wouldn’t know what she had to go through to be where she is now. A little bit of hard work and a determination to keep going will surely amount to success.
