“There was a funeral yesterday [Saturday] at Dompim, involving a late linguist from Wassa Fiase Traditional Council. Police provided security for the burial which was attended by the chief from Wassa Fiase, together with the Chief of Dompim, Nana Duah Panin II. It was in the evening around 5:30 pm when some boys clashed in the town. One was allegedly holding a cutlass chasing the other, but the one being chased collected the cutlass and rather slashed the bearer.”

Chief Superintendent Kumah further explained that the incident was on the back of an ensuing chieftaincy dispute in the area.

“Nana Nyowa Panin IV is now the current Chief of Dompim and Nana Ohyiawora Bian is a destooled Chief of Dompim but some people still parade him as the chief of the town. The victim was at the Information Centre telling the people of Dompim that they should not recognize Nana Nyowa Panin IV as the Chief of Dompim but rather Ohyiawora Bian, the destooled Chief. The offended supporters rushed to the Information Centre and there was a confrontation, but they were separated and everybody left.”

“The victim, Dauda Issaka, who is a supporter of the destooled chief armed himself with a cutlass and went in town and spotted the very guy who confronted him at the Information Centre, Robert Amo, alias Jato. In the middle of the confrontation, Jato rather overpowered Dauda Issaka who came with the cutlass, collected the cutlass from him and rather slashed him. Although he sustained multiple cutlass wound on the head, Dauda did not die but currently receiving treatment at the Tarkwa Apinto Hospital after he was transferred from the Simpa Clinic.”

Chief Superintendent George Andrew Kumah said besides Dauda, another lady also sustained serious injuries but information on how her injuries came about is yet to be ascertained.

“We have recorded two persons who have sustained injuries because there is a lady who has also sustained injuries, but she has not given us the details about what actually happened. When she rushed to the police station, she was immediately given medical form to the hospital and report back but she is yet to return. But so far we have arrested one person, Robert Amo, alias Jato who slashed Dauda Issaka,” he said.

Coronavirus: Cases in north of England ‘getting out of control’, minister says.

Coronavirus is “getting out of control” in the north of England, a minister has said, as she defended government plans to bring in new restrictions.

Gillian Keegan said the country was in an “unbelievably serious situation”, but added that communication with areas facing new rules needed to be clearer.

It comes as Labour’s Sir Keir Starmer called for local leaders to be “in the room” and included in decisions.

The chancellor will set out support linked to the new restrictions later.

A Treasury spokesperson said Rishi Sunak’s latest move as part of the Jobs Support Scheme would help to “protect jobs and provide a safety net for those businesses that may have to close in the coming weeks and months”.

It has already been announced that the scheme, which will replace the furlough scheme when it ends this month, will see workers get three quarters of their normal salaries for six months.
Under the new system – which will replace the patchwork of existing rules – pubs and restaurants could be closed in the worst-affected areas, while a ban on overnight stays is also being considered.

But there has been growing anger among MPs and local leaders about the way the government has communicated the proposed changes with them.

  • Fears of lockdown Gribs Europe suffers virus surge

Fears of lockdown Gribs Europe suffers virus surge

Coronavirus cases are surging in Europe amid rising opposition to lockdown rules in a number of countries.

Europe is now reporting more coronavirus cases weekly than the US or South America, and experts have warned that without action a return to the peak of the pandemic could be on the way.

Europe recorded 460,000 new cases last week, while North and South America announced 380,000 each.

There was also a rise in cases among vulnerable groups, including over-65s, as the pandemic’s second wave swept the continent.

Cases among those aged 65 and over have been creeping up in Europe since September, analysis of the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control’s figures showed. New weekly cases in that group doubled in the past month compared with July.

Martin McKee, professor of European public health at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, said: “We are heading back to March again if we are not careful – that’s the real worry.”

There were some positives: testing improved dramatically in Europe, meaning far more cases were being found now than in March and April.

Hospital admissions were also lower than in the spring, with 20,000 Europeans in hospital with Covid-19. At April’s peak there were more than 90,000.

However, the rise in older groups could push the numbers in hospital back up, experts warned.

Despite the rise, opposition to the various lockdown regulations remained strong.

Yesterday, Spain declared a state of emergency in Madrid to enforce a partial lockdown, including a ban on non-essential travel and large gatherings, and a 50pc capacity rule on public indoor spaces, overriding regional authorities and a court ruling outlawing the restrictions.

According to Johns Hopkins University’s coronavirus counter, Spain had 12,423 new cases in the 24 hours up to yesterday, and 126 deaths, with Madrid the major driver. In total, 32,688 people have died with Covid-19 in Spain, out of 848,324 cases.

In France, Europe’s worst-hit country on a weekly basis with 79,000 infections reported in the last seven days, restaurateurs in Marseille took to the streets and local leaders launched a legal action to prevent closures.

Yesterday, Angela Merkel warned that new restrictions could be on the cards for 11 cities in Germany after registering 4,000 new infections on Thursday and yesterday.

The Netherlands suffered a leap in new cases, with 5,000 recorded on Thursday and an infection rate of 243 per million inhabitants, higher than Spain or Britain.

The Czech Republic declared a state of emergency after cases soared 20-fold.

Iceland, a former prime example of Covid management, closed hospitality venues after a surge in infections.

The World Health Organisation said that while it was “sad” to see cases spiking again in Europe, governments should avoid a return to “punishing” lockdowns. (© Daily Telegraph, London)

The Black Stars head coach has opened up on why his side was hammered by the Eagles of Mali in an international friendly on Friday.

Coach Charles Kwablan Akonnor has blamed lack of teamwork for Ghana’s disappointing performance against Mali.

The four-time Africa Cup of Nations Champions suffered a painful 3-0 defeat to Mali in an intentional friendly staged at the Emir Hotel Sports Complex in Turkey.

“I won’t blame the players for the defeat but the key thing which resulted our loss to Mali was that the team was not organized,” Akonnor told Adom TV

“The players didn’t know themselves because most of them were debutants and even the first time they’re playing together.”

“We trained for only two days and there was lack of understanding as well. These are the few things which affected us during the game”

“Mali didn’t play anything extraordinary but they were an organized side which handed them the victory”

Ghana will face Qatar in another international friendly at the Emir Hotel Sports Complex on October 12.

Ghana are currently preparing for their next month’s 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers double-header against Sudan.

  • Andre Ayew Advices Thomas Partey on the Black Stars Captaincy

Andre Ayew Advices Thomas Partey on the Black Stars Captaincy

Ghana captain Andre Dede Ayew has hailed the leadership qualities of Thomas Partey and has backed the newly signed Arsenal to be his successor.

Ayew believes Partey and Richard Ofori have  proven over the years on and off the pitch to be named as deputy captains for the team and they have what it takes to deliver.

I think they are grooming them for the future, I think Thomas (Partey) has been in the team for five years now, since 2015. So, he is gradually getting there, he has proved his worth in the national team and also at club level”, he said in an interview….

“I am talking about on the pitch and also outside the pitch, he is becoming more and more matured, becoming somebody that we can rely upon off the pitch also. So, I think that giving him a responsibility like this, is giving him the status to understand that the country and the team count on him a lot, not just now but also for the future. Because he is a very good and talented player who knows how to play the kind of football that Ghana want to play”.

The Swansea City star also advised the newly signed Arsenal midfielder who has been tipped as the next captain of the team to be ready to deal with the huge load that’s comes with the position.

“I think for him its something good. I have been there before; he has to know that it’s a heavy position. We have good and bad moments.  He has to take the knocks when its bad and take the glory when it’s good. But I think he is up to the task and will do well as my deputy”.

Thomas Partey was named as the first deputy captain, followed by goalkeeper Richard Ofori has the second deputy captain.
